Rossini's Cinderella : Opera Kitchener : I went out for a bit of a walk this morning and discovered that the new square in Uptown Waterloo was going to be home to Rossini's Cinderella this afternoon. I talked to some of the people involved in the production for a bit, and decided to come back and watch for a while. I ended up staying for the whole opera. It was amazing. The singing was fantastic and the orchestra good. Each performer was had a microphone and were easy to hear over the traffic noise.

One of the things that struck me, particularly after I got home and reviewed the photos, was how expressive everyone's face was. I have not seen a lot of live theatre, but can imagine that the slightly overblown expressions are needed in order to have them seen at the back of the crowd that was there to see and only looked overdone when viewed through a 300mm lens.

Martin, Suzanne, and my sister ended up joining me for the show. A good time was had by all.

I did a little digging and found the following information:
Cast
Angelina (Cinderella) = Jennifer Fina
Don Ramiro (Prince) = Emilio Fina
Dandini (Servant) = Douglas Tranquada
Don Magnifico (Step Father) = Gerrit Theule
Clorinda (Step Sister) = Anna Bateman
Tisbe (Step Sister) = Louisa Cowie
Alidoro = Matthew Morrison

Mozart's The Magic Flute : Opera Kitchener : Opera Kitchener performed the last in a series of three free operas in Uptown Waterloo. Abby and I went and saw The Magic Flute by WA Mozart. She, and I, loved it.

The pictures have some creative post processing applied to them to meet the challenges of the changing lighting conditions. Please feel free to leave a note and tell me what you think of them. Thanks!

More pictures will follow as I get the time to upload them.

The Alder Fork Festival for EDACWR : Information on EDACWR and the bands who played will be added as the information becomes available to me. Check back for more details. Pictures will likely be added over the next several days.

Two solo acts, two bands, one small theatre. There was a lot of energy in tonight's performances. The pictures are not presented in any particular order to lend some variety to them should you choose to use the slideshow option.

Technical tidbits: All were shot using an Olympus E-3 dslr and the ZD50-200 f2.8-3.5 swd lens. Average iso was 1600. The overwhelming majority of these photos are SOOC except for the "Sharpen for Portraits" preset (tweaked as needed) and noise reduction (minor) using Nik Define 2. Some very minor touch up cropping was done to some of the pictures. Black and white conversions done in Lightroom.
