Royal Botanical Gardens, May 2 2009 : Martin, Suzanne, Marion, Mel, and I went to the Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington Ontario today. The intention was to see trees in bloom, but we miss timed things by a week or three and very little was blooming. However, there were a lot of cooperative birds and small wildlife critters there to keep us amused. They were very friendly and came right up for a visit. For a time, we were followed by a small flock of chickadees who where determined to eat the seeds we (forgot) to bring with us. Luck was not with them! The photog community was well in evidence - I cannot remember the last time I have seen so many people in one spot with so much nice camera equipment. Hopefully, they had as much fun as we did. To try something different, I added a bit of vignetting to some of these photos. I am currently using a trial of Capture One and am liking it (but not as much as Adobe Lightroom). Soon, I shall have to break down and buy Lightroom...

Every photo in this gallery was taken using an Olympus E-520 dslr and a ZD 70-300mm f4-5.6 lens.

Out and About and the Aftermath, May 24, 2009 : Out and About: Carrie and I went on a walk on the morning of the 24th of May, 2009. We went to where the Egret lives in Kitchener; it was out. We then went to Wriggly's Corners down near Brant Country and took a walk in a conservation area there. It was very very buggy, and we did not stay for very long. After that, we moved on to Wriggly Lake and took some pictures of reflections. Shortly thereafter, we paused on a high bridge overlooking the Grand River near Glen Morris (I think). Then, we were on to Cambridge where we took a walk along the Speed River. All in all, it was a busy time.
The Aftermath: We assembled later in the day at Tudor's house for a get together and picture share. We framed some pictures up and critiqued them a bit, and had some good times just visiting.

Black and White in Preston, June 21, 2009 : The theme of this roam was the same as that of my "One" gallery: one camera, one prime lens, black and white, one set of settings (shutter speed and aperture aside) and no post processing allowed (pick a set of settings, and mimic "film". Carrie, Martin, Tudor and myself went along for the ride and had a good time taking our pictures.

Tews Falls, June 30, 2009 : Carrie and I went to Spencer Gorge just outside of Dundas Ontario this morning. The falls were beautiful, but we sadly got rained out of seeing the second waterfall. That is ok though; it just means that another trip will have to be made!

Night Walk in Waterloo, July 24 2009 : Martin and I went on a drive around Waterloo and took some pictures at night. Most of my exposures were in the 60 second range and the results were interesting to say the least. We did not have a lot of time for a lot of photos, so the numbers will be lower than normal.

Yak-52, August 19, 2009 (a day with some friends and interesting airplanes) : The day centered mostly around a Yak-52 (a Soviet era prop plane used as a trainer, amongst other things). There were other planes of interest which we saw - some parked, and some in motion. Enjoy.

Adventures with Carrie in Brandfort and Paris, August 22, 2009 : We started our day off in Brantford at a spot called the Ford Plant. This was a derelict building in downtown Brantford which happened to be housing a craft show that a friend of Carrie happened to be involved in. The building was amazing in a run down sort of way. The first few pictures are from there. Then, we went on a wander around the downtown. Sadly, or not, it rained. The rain forced us to doorway hop and we went into several thrift stores and chatted with some awfully nice people. We learned that a good part of the old downtown is going to be torn down and replaced. This might explain in part why it was such a mess, although I am given to understand that it has been like that for a while. We had some minor misadventures prior to lunch, and then the sun came out. Rejoicing commenced. We then continued walking about for a bit before driving on to Paris. There, we photographed along the river and downtown for a bit before heading home.

CKMS Martin and Celine, August 22, 2009 : Martin and Celine have been doing a radio show together for about 11 years now on the local radio station CKMS. They are, due to things beyond their control, winding it down. I was fortunate enough to be there for one of their last shows. Here it is, radio worth watching.

Out in the dark : Martin and I have gone out on several photo roams in the dark. Rather than make several galleries all of the city after dark with only a few photos in them, I am making one general one here which will contain all or most of the "after dark" photoroams. Dates will be in the picture descriptions.
